Literature Carnival |
![]() On 22 April, to mark World Book Day, a Literature Carnival will be held as part of this project on Aberdeen Promenade from 2pm to 5pm. Along with lantern riddles, game booths, handicraft booths and storytelling areas for audiences of all ages, there will be calligraphic demonstrations by calligraphists and various performances related to literature and the arts taking place along the promenade. We welcome you to join us in this fun cultural event. The seven flower plaques – which will each stand 12 to 18 feet high – will be displayed for public viewing for two weeks from 22 April at the Aberdeen Promenade. Supported by the Southern District Council, YAF has initiated a cultural and arts project by inviting over a hundred young people to participate in this exciting & innovative community event. This project aims at encouraging young people to learn more about 6 famous Chinese writers -- Dai Wangshu, Cai Yuanpei, Eileen Chang, Xiao Hong, Xu Dishan and Hu Shih through creative writing workshops. The youngsters will take inspiration from the writers’ works and translate their own ideas through the traditional craft of flower plaque making as tributes to these masters. These flower plaques will integrate the elements of traditional arts and crafts, relief sculpture-making and creative writing, and will be displayed for public viewing on April 2012 to promote the Southern District Literacy Trail. |

Aiming to let people know more about the story of Chinese writers in Southern District and promote Southern District as a place for literary exploration. The Southern District Literary Trail Landmark Exhibition held from now to 29 December 2010. The Opening Ceremony had been taken place at 17 December 2010 and the scene is impressive.

Distribution of Postcards for Literary Trail in the Southern District Many modern and contemporary writers have written about the lives and scenery in the Southern District. To promote local tourism and people’s interest in literature, the Southern District Council has developed a Literary Trail in the Southern District, featuring five famous Chinese writers: Chang Eileen, Xiao Hong, Xu Dishan, Cai Yuanpei and Dai Wangshu etc. By tracing the footsteps of these celebrated authors and poets and rediscovering their stories, the Literary Trail in the Southern District takes visitors to the spots where they left their marks. Perhaps through this journey of discovery, visitors can have a new understanding of the mind and thought of these literary figures when reading their works.

Aiming at attracting more overseas, mainland and local tourists to the Southern District, the Southern District Council will organize a Southern District Tourism & Culture Festival from May 2010 to February 2011. During the festival, the district’s distinctive cultural traditions will be paraded, and its potential for developing tourism will be fully explored.
